Our Vision
Save Lives
Prosper Lives
Build Eternal Legacies
The Battle Initiative is a peer led faith based organisation run by and for veterans, service personnel, first responders and their families. We operate 5 day recovery and character building programs walk alongside our Warriors in the healing journey overcoming challenges that come with life and service like moral injuries and post traumatic stress.
Many of our Warriors find it difficult to reintegrate back into civilian life, leaving their families to deal with the aftermath of broken homes and suicide at times. By having the opportunity to hear testimonies of overcoming with hope and faith in Jesus, these Warriors are able to lead their families, their communities and our great nation.
Our mission is to serve and restore our Nation’s Warriors and see suicide eliminated, the cycle of divorce broken, develop healthy families, build resilience and encourage warriors to serve and impact their communities.
Our Founders
I am Andrew Hovenden, the founder of The Battle Initiative. I have a relationship with Jesus, a beautiful wife and 4 children. With a deep-rooted passion for supporting veterans and first responders, I established this organisation to provide a pathway for a Christian faith-based community option that understands and addresses the unique challenges faced by those who serve our nation.
My journey began with seven and a half years in the Royal Australian Infantry (RAINF) as a paratrooper in the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3 RAR). My time in the military gave me firsthand experience with the struggles of transitioning back to civilian life, dealing with PTSd, and managing the impacts of service on personal and family life. These experiences have shaped my commitment to helping others navigate similar paths
After my military service, I spent six years as a campus pastor, where I developed a deep passion for seeing people meet Jesus, find healing and grow in their faith. I have walked alongside many men and women facing common challenges, witnessing their growth and prosperity through faith and community support.
Inspired by the Mighty Oaks Foundation in the United States, I recognised a significant gap in similar programs in Australia. Driven by my challenges and a desire to provide support to others, I embarked on a mission to establish The Battle Initiative. Our goal is to create a space where veterans and first responders can find support, healing, a sense of purpose and a faith in Jesus Christ which saved and prospered my life and led me on a path to build and fight for an eternal legacy.
In addition to leading The Battle Initiative, I am dedicated to continuous personal growth, community engagement, and advocating for the well-being of our heroes. Together with a dedicated team, we strive to make a positive difference in the lives of those who have given so much for our country.
